Delhi, on 23rd May� 2007 Hon�ble Home Minister of India,
Shri Shivraj V Patil decorated 23 Officers and men with
Police Medals for Gallantry and 27 with Meritorious
Service medals at the 5th Investiture Ceremony held at
Air Force Auditorium, Subroto Park New Delhi. Two of
Police Medals for Gallantry Awards were given
Posthumously. Minister of State for Home Affairs Sh.
Sriprakash Jaiswal , Union Home Secretary Shri Madhukar
Gupta Shri A K Mitra, Director General Border Security
Force and senior officers of the force were preset on
the occasion.
The
investiture ceremony is organized by the BSF every year
to commemorate the birth anniversary of late Shri K.F.
Rustamji ,the founding father of the Border Security
Force.
In his
address, the Home Minister recalled the brilliance of
K.F.Rustamji and said that BSF has grown progressively
and acquired all attributes and capabilities to counter
both external and internal threats. There is no denying
the fact that the contribution of this force in
upholding the integrity and sovereignty of India has
been significant and nation remembers them with pride
and salutes these heroes with great reverence, Sh. Patil
said. Sharing the concern of DG BSF the Union Home
Minister said that the govt. is aware of the casualties
of BSF personnel more often at the early age during
action and the plight of their family members. He said
that favorable pension scheme of the force personnel is
under active consideration and positive result may come
soon.
Union Home Minister also stressed on the need for
adopting new Training Module considering the changed
threat perception and the era of proxy war.
Earlier in his welcome address Sh. A K Mitra DG BSF
recalled the contribution of late Sh. K .F Rustamji and
said it is the result of his far sightedness that the
Force Rustamji raised and lead for nine years has
successfully fulfilled the expectation of countrymen for
the last 42 years. 1362 force personnel made supreme
sacrifice at the altar of duty. The country has paid
rich tribute and honored them with 1131 Gallantry
awards, the proud DG of BSF said.
