BSF
is bracing up again for a special mission for
maintenance of law and order and conduct of elections in
Congo. Known for playing crucial role in containing
insurgency in Jammu& Kashmir and North -East, BSF is now
on its way to Lubumbashi in Democratic Republic of
Congo, located in Central Africa. The challenging task
in this mission is for restoration of law and order and
to create a conducive atmosphere for holding elections
in a land riddled with multi faceted internal
contradictions and conflicts.
True to the ethos of BSF in
accepting challenges with proven experience in Jammu
Kashmir and other parts of the country, this mission is
another step for BSF, the largest Border Guarding Force
in the world in contributing to security management on
foreign soil. The current contingent is a follow up of
the first contingent, which has returned after 15 months
of creditable performance in Congo. The contingent being
sent now consists of 7 officers, 14 Subordinates
Officers and 104 Other Ranks including 10 women
Subordinates officers/Constables lead by Mr. Akhileswar
Singh, Commandant a total of 125 persons. They will be
leaving for Congo on 13th Feb 2007.
BSF has taken part in
several Peacekeeping Missions in Namibia , Cambodia ,
Bosnia , Sudan , Kosovo etc. The BSF contingent was
flagged off by Shri Shivraj V Patil Hon’ble Home
Minister of India in a colorful ceremony at BSF Hqrs.

Addl DG FHQ BSF received the Union Home Minister in
absence of Sh A K Mitra, DG BSF. Present on this colourful
occasion were Sh V K Duggal, Union Home Secretary, and
senior officers of BSF Force Headquarters.
